It would be nice to have a creative web presence… Don’t you think? How about one that generates business?

PPC & Landing Pages go Hand-In-Hand

hand-in-handWhen people are just getting into pay per click advertising they are often so excited to see traffic going to their site, that they don’t even think about whether it’s converting or not. As time progresses they start to realize, “who cares if people are going to my site, I’m not selling squat!”

That’s where landing pages come in. Because like a hotdog and a beer at a baseball game, pay per click and landing pages go hand in hand. Let me tell you why.

They Support Each Other

Sure you might convert some traffic if you are sending large amounts of visitors to your site. In fact, you could be converting a decent amount of traffic. But with a good landing page you can convert more traffic for less.

If you have a great PPC campaign with great text ads, well researched and tested bids, quality keywords and negative keywords, that is only half the battle. If you send that traffic to a bad landing page, you might as well pack them a sandwich for the road, because right when they get there, they are going to bounce! A good landing page is just as important as good PPC practices. Make sure your page gives the user exactly what they are looking for.

Landing Pages Let You Easily Run Promotions!

Have you ever noticed that a lot of AdWord competitors look the same? I mean think about it, there are really only a few that jump out at you each time you do a search right? Why do they jump out at you do you think? Let’s take a moment to think about this…

Say you’re looking for an iPod. There are plenty of places that advertise on that keyword. But if the ad text in the top 2 spots says “Buy a iPod,” and the number 3 spot says “iPod 30% Off Sale.” Which one are you going to click on? But wait. It’s not just the click that matters right? It is what converts…

If you are advertising 30% off iPods in your ad text, you better be sure that same text is in the title of your landing page. Otherwise, make that user a sandwich for the road, because they are going to bounce. You also better make sure that landing page is tailored to the keyword group.

Landing pages are easy to create. You can make a page promoting a 30% off campaign very easily. Therefore, with good ad text, and a great landing page, you can easily run any promotion you want and have all the odds in favor of conversions. You also need a good coder to take care of the backend billing system if you are doing online orders, but that is another topic.

Bottom Line

When it comes down to it, a good landing page is a great way to get conversions and boost sales/profits. It gives you the ability to get your perfect sales pitch in front of your customer right away. Also, if you’re going to be dedicating time and resources to Google AdWords, banner advertising, text link advertising, affiliate marketing, social media, etc, it makes sense to make sure that traffic is going to a place that is going to pay off.
